Traffic Tickets

Traffic tickets can often cost more than simply the fine attached to the ticket itself.

Driving Tickets

Driving tickets often cost more than the fine attached to the ticket itself. Demerit points are added to your licence, which can lead to suspension of your license. Your insurance rates can also be affected. In extreme cases of excessive speed, or dangerous driving, your licence can instantly be suspended for 30 days

• In Ontario, you have the option of hiring a Provincial Offense Specialist, hiring a lawyer, or representing yourself. Unfortunately this service is not available in the rest of Canada.

• Provincial Offense Specialists (POS) specializing in driving tickets are former police officers, former prosecutors and court agents who have immediate experience in the field. They are not necessarily lawyers. In the case of serious violations (DUIs), you should hire a criminal lawyer.

Do I need a defence?

• Do you have a defence for the ticket?
• Are there any technical errors on the written ticket that will get it dropped in court?
• Your representative will often do everything from filing for your court date, to ordering the officers discloser, building a defence and fighting your traffic ticket in court on your behalf. You do not necessarily need to attend.

Is it worth it for you to get defence?

• Consider the cost of paying the ticket, and the rise in your insurance rates against the cost of obtaining a lawyer or agent. The cost of the defence will be related to the severity of the violation.

How do I find a Lawyer?

• Talk to friends and family. Perhaps you know someone who has been involved in a traffic violation.
• Many experts advertise their services on television, Google Adwords (found at the top of this page) or through ads with Yellow Pages, but it is generally wise to get a first hand opinion.

What will it cost?

• At the initial consultation. your representative will be able to tell you if it is worth it for you to hire them, or just pay the ticket.

Consider this when meeting with a lawyer or POS

• Often you can have a free consultation to determine if you have a case.
• Traffic ticket defence is a competitive business, so it can pay to shop around for the best price.
